CALCULUS 1This course is an introduction to calculus designed to develop the topics of functions of one variable, including techniques of differentiation, applications to graphing, optimization problems, and an introduction to integration, with applications. Emphasis is placed on limits, continuity, derivatives, and integrals of algebraic and transcendental functions of one variable. Upon completion, students should be able to select and use appropriate models and techniques for finding solutions to related problems.
The course develops skills, competencies, and thought processes sufficient to support further study or work in related fields. Students will acquire a level of proficiency in the fundamental concepts and applications in Calculus 1 necessary to succeed in further courses requiring Calculus 1 as a prerequisite, or for work in occupational fields requiring a background in Calculus. These fields might include computer science, engineering, the physical and natural sciences as well as mathematics.
